[Korea] Director's Note: Future Direction

  • He stated that during the Lunar New Year holiday, they have released several magazine posts that briefly introduce level 105 equipment. Players have left plenty of opinions and various concerns. So this note is here to address those concerns.
  • Currently, DnF is at a state where it's not easy to make changes to the entire game due to many systems and contents accumulated over such a long time.
    • He stated that one of the most urgent changes is the monotonous aspect of character development and mechanics. Think of it like wearing school uniform where everyone is basically the same, not only to equipment, but also skill tree.
    • He stated that having this type of uniformity can have positive effect by reducing mistakes, but in term of gaming experience, it kind of decrease the build diversity.
    • However, when you try to force this type of playstyle variety, he understands that the balance will not be perfect. So with the original weapons (that focus damage increase), he's thinking the Decisive Weapon is one of the first step to these changes, and those weapon were made with the goal of giving players more playstyle options. Hopefully players can enjoy them more.
  • He went on to say that he slightly regretting the release of these magazines because players can just straight focus on damage and completely ignore those Decisive Weapon (looks like this was one of the player's concern.).
    • But there's still more than a month left in development period, so not all options are finalized, and he wants to hear honest opinions from the players. For now, let's call these decisive weapon a new attempt, and he's sorry that this did not live up to expectation.
    • Regardless, it's fortunate that he was able to listening to player's thoughts before the update and use it as an opportunity to improve. Again, the previously disclosed contents are under development, and various changes are still scheduled.
    • There are weapons that look too good. There are weapons that look bad compared to the standard because the cooldown option adjustment is excluded. There are weapons that do not have options applied to characters using various types of weapons. In addition to these unresolved aspect, they will actively collect the valuable feedback to present better content.
  • He proceeded to talk about critical rate. He stated that in the past, it was much difficult to hit 100% crit rate, and there are classes that can hit this cap easier than other, thus in a way making them somewhat unique. However, as time passed, more equipment with crit rate are added, making it much easier to cap 100%. So in the end, this uniqueness is no longer unique, and they're contemplating on reorganize this part in a long-term direction.
  • He stated that it's difficult to progress quickly. And with the introduction of the max level expansion, he want to reduce this inconvenience. When going though this, he wanted to let players know that he's taking various precaution through balancing. He didn't want to repeat the mistake during Anton raid days.
  • Last but not least, they fully understand the concern about decisive weapon, and they will do their best to carry out balances of both characters and those decisive weapons. He hopes that when the actual cap increase hit, those concerns will be come "no big deal".
My Thoughts
  • I somewhat understand some of the concerns KDnF have here. Some weapon options seem to be too good, whereas some options are just meh. It will definitely hard to balance everything perfectly for every class. And I understand how some players can just completely ignore these decisive weapons and just go straight to the damage weapon.
  • Regardless, I'm happy that the director is communicating more with the community, sharing his thoughts and direction. And he seems like a genuine guy that wants to make the game better. New level cap in Korea will be a huge mess, but that's why they're test server for DFOG. And hopefully when the dust settle down, DFOG can get a better patch.
