- With over 400 different options spreading over 90+ item, it can be overwhelming for new players. In this post I will organize and simply those options for you. Hopefully your RNG journey will make more sense after this. As always, comments, corrections, suggestions are always welcome.
What are Custom Epics?
- "Custom" is a newly introduced terminology with 110 level cap. And like the name implied, these epics allow you change their options around. Wow, amazing right? an epic where I can choose whatever options I want. Well, sounds good on paper, but it's a bit more complicated than that.
- Take this Blue Beryl Bottom as an example. You can tell it's a custom epic because when you hover over the piece in the dictionary, you just see 4 arrow (circle 1). Then when you click on "View" (circle 2), the DFOpedia will give you all the options that this piece can have (circle 3).
- So to make it simple to understand, every time a custom epic drops, the 4 options you get on it are from a pool of options. In the example below, both are Ent Spirit Top, but they have complete 4 different options.
How They're Organized
- Well, when you pull up options the DFOpedia, there are 58 pages of options. With 7 options per page, that's like over 400 different options. Clicking on each option you will see list of applicable items. That's a lot of information to read through so I'll sort them out for you.
- In order to sort them out, I have typed out every line of options on an Excel sheet (over 4,100 lines) and count their number of occurrence using Pivot Table to see if there's a pattern.
- I was basically asking the question. Okay, the DFOpedia is telling me that option A can be on this this this slots, and B can be on that that that slots. So does one option occurs more that the other? Looking at the Number of Occurrences you can see 4 patterns (also keep in mind that I count each legendary slot as 1. There are 5 armor type and a bazillion weapon type):
- Those options that occur 2~3 times
- Those options that occur 15~16 times
- Those options that occur 25~26 times
- And those options that occur 56 times
- Why are these important? You can think of this options in 3 big categories: Common, Uncommon, and Unique.
- NOTE: With the Season 7 Act 4. The Machine Revolution: Total War on Feb 21, 2023, some custom options have been changed. Be sure to check that out.
Common Options
- These are the ones that occur 56 times. Why 56 times? because there are 5 custom sets: Blue Beryl, Forest Witch, Ent Spirit, Deep Diver, and Sacrosanct Area (aka Legendary). Each set is 11 slots plus legendary weapon is total 56.
- Being common means every single custom piece can have these options. The following options are considered common. As you can see, they're pretty meh. If you have to use them, I would take the elemental damage.
Uncommon Options
- Those options that occur 15~16 times and 25~26 times. They're uncommon because they are specific to Armor, Accessory, or Special Equipment slot.
- 15~16 times are Accessory and Special Equipment. Each one is 3 slots, times 5 custom sets is 15. The 16th time is on the weapon.
- 25~26 times are for Armor. 5 slots times 5 custom sets is 25. The 26th time is on the weapon.
- You can see a common trend here is that Legendary weapon share a lot of options with other slots.
- Here's an example of "All classes' Lv. 45 skill range +15%" option. As you can see, it's not that rare, but you can only find it on armor slot.
Unique Options
- These are the ones that occur 2~3 times. Yes, you read that right, out of the whole DFOpedia options list, you can only see this option at 2~3 places. This is what make them unique and are specific to the item itself.
- For example: One of the most OP option out there is Aliment damage +30%. Here you have the bleeding damage +30%, and you can only find this option in 2 items, Blue Beryl Top and Legendary Top.
- For your convenience, below is a summary of unique options for each Custom epic.
Transfer Options
- We talked about how you can transfer different options around. So let walk through some examples and restrictions.
- Rule 1: You can only transfer options between items of the same slot. In the example below, when I put Ent shoes in the first slot, you can see that only the shoes are lit up in my inventory
- Rule 2: You can only transfer options of the same pool. In the example below, I'm trying to pick an option from Ent shoes to transfer to Forest Witch shoes. You can see that Ent's Option 3 are grayed out. That's because that option is unique specifically to Ent shoes, therefore you can't transfer it to Forest Witch shoes.
- Rule 3: You can NOT transfer duplicate options. In the example below, you can see that Option 1 and 3 are grayed out. That's because the source item already have those 2 options.
- Rule 4: Once an option is transferred, your epic is now locked and you can only replace the transferred option with another option in case you want to switch things around. In the example below, I replaced option 1 with another option. As you can see on the right picture, my epic is now locked. That means in the future, if I want to move option around, I can only replace option 1 (indicated by the yellow arrow).
What to Look For
- This section is tricky because I can't tell you exactly what to look for. It's because I don't play every single class in the game. I can only tell you how these options are organized, I can't tell you which one to pick. I can give you an example of what I look for though.
- This is my generic Mana Burn set-up. My next goal is to get Blue Beryl Armor top. So what options do I look for?
- 1st, I want a unique option for this item. Since I'm using Black Flower Binding Bracelet, I want "Bleeding damage +30%, Incoming damage +20%" option for my Blue Beryl.
- 2nd, Blue Beryl also has unique option "Damage value N when attacking (Max stacks: 20)", which is pretty good. If I can get that, 100% cool. But the chance of getting 2 unique options is pretty low, so I probably can settle for 2 armor slot options.
- "Applies the following effects for every 5 attacks (Max Stacks: 20), Damage Value N, Physical/Magical Def. -500" - This options seem good
- "All classes' Lv. 45 skill range +15%" - Decent for Death Hawk if I have nothing else to get.
- 3nd, worst case scenario I can pick 1 or 2 common options. I'm stacking water damage, so "Water Damage +15" and "All Elemental Damage +15, All Elemental Resistance -10" are decent.
References
With the new addition of dragon's fix option epics, getting "+15 all attack - 10 all resist" might not be that great if you are planning on using the new shoulder piece (120 all resist requirement), I would suggest +10 all element instead.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good point. I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!
Deleteso in order to get the option i want, the only way to is to keep grinding for that same epic gear and hope i get the option i want . right?
ReplyDeleteBasically yes. I usually keep one as "donor" piece. This is the one with one really good option. Then you keep farming and use Warped Dimension Cube to reroll another piece until you get about 2~3 good lines, then transfer the other good line from donor piece over. Regardless, it's a long grind. Good luck!
